Getting Started

Are you ready to become a Ham? Just follow these simple steps:

  1. Study for the Technicians Class license, and HERE is a great way to do that. Some Amateur Radio clubs offer classes. Find clubs near you HERE.
  2. If you live in the greater Cleveland(Ohio) area, then try THIS club. They offer classes every year in April that include the actual test!

  3. Take the exam whenever you are ready. It will cost you $15. HERE is a list for online testing, otherwise you can contact a local club. The exam is given by a Volunteer Examiner(VE) and they will tell you if you passed after you complete the test.
  4. WAIT! Don't get on the air just yet!

  5. The Federal Communications Commission will contact you after they process your information. The license will cost you $35 to the FCC, and they will grant you the Ham Radio License along with your call sign.
  6. Congratulations! You are now a Ham!
